Marmot

It’s strange, the very animals we would not like in our backyards, trash cans or attics are cute in the great- out-doors. Marmots would fall into that category of loved/hated, cute pest.
Wikipedia defines Marmots as: generally large ground squirrels in the genus Marmota, of which there are 15 species. Those most often referred to as marmots tend to live in mountainous areas.
Marmots seemed to tolerate the altitude and harsh environment and live in the rocks. These guys are fantastic con-men for food, they don’t miss a trick and they will pose for free. They were living at about 12 to 13 thousand feet in stacked rocks just off the road. Most of them are highly social and whistle to communicate, taking their turn at entertaining hikers/photographers. I shot this one with my Canon A510 on a hike at the Rocky Mountains National Park. Tech: Canon A510, ISO 50, 1/640 @ F/5.5 (subject distance 18m) ©2012 Jim Norwood. 1. We have these ‘wonderful’ creatures here in the Okangan Valley in British Columbia. They are everywhere. I agree they are cute to look at but not so cute at other times.
Thanks for visiting my photo blog too. I appreciate the ‘like’.
